VelvetSearch ("we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it through this Privacy Policy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data when you use the VelvetSearch mobile application (the "App").

1. Information we collect

We collect the following types of information when you use the App:

• Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and a securely hashed password via our authentication provider, Supabase.
• Photos and images. When you use the visual search feature, the photos you upload or capture are sent to our servers and processed to identify the item shown. These images are stored in our database to support your search history and saved boards.
• Search activity. We store your text searches, saved boards, and price alerts so the App can function and so you can return to your saved items.
• Usage data. We may collect information about how you interact with the App, such as feature usage and crash logs, to help us improve performance and reliability.
• Device information. We may collect basic device information such as device type and operating system version for compatibility and debugging purposes.

2. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and maintain the App's core features, including visual search, price comparison, and price-drop alerts
• Identify items in photos you submit by processing them through our visual recognition service
• Find purchase links and pricing information across retailers
• Maintain your account, saved boards, and search history
• Send you price-drop notifications for items you've chosen to track
• Respond to your inquiries when you contact us
• Improve and troubleshoot the App

3. How your photos are processed

When you submit a photo for visual search, the image is sent to Google's Gemini Vision API to identify the item, and then used to query SerpAPI (which interfaces with Google Lens) to locate matching or similar products across retailers. These third parties process the image solely to return search results to the App and are not used by VelvetSearch for any purpose beyond fulfilling your search request.

4. Third-party services

We work with the following third-party service providers to operate the App:

• Supabase — authentication, database, file storage, and backend functions
• Google Gemini Vision — image recognition for visual search
• SerpAPI — retrieval of product listings and pricing via Google Lens

Each of these providers has its own privacy practices governing how they handle data passed to them. We encourage you to review their respective privacy policies.

5. Data sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We only share your information with the third-party service providers listed above, to the extent necessary for them to perform services on our behalf, or where required by law.

6. Data retention

We retain your account information, photos, and search history for as long as your account remains active, or as needed to provide you the App's features. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.

7. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, delete, or export the data we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the information below and we will respond to your request.

8. Children's privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

9. Data security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last updated" date above, and where appropriate, through the App.
